The 3AF Ile-de-France Group Matinales

Group "Ile-de-France"

Sustainable Aviation Fuels: how to develop them in France? - Matinale 04-2023

FRIDAY JUNE 30, 2023 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. by videophone via ZOOM

The Île-de-France group invites its members to take part in a debate with experts on SUSTAINABLE AVIATION FUELS: WHICH SECTORS FOR THEIR DEVELOPMENT IN FRANCE?

A few months ago, the French air transport sector presented its decarbonization roadmap to the relevant ministers (energy transition, transport, industry), with several scenarios for achieving Net Zero by 2050. The objectives set by the ICAO "Long Term Aspirational Goal" have been translated at European level with the Green Deal, which has set a first milestone for 2030 with a 55% reduction in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions compared to 1990. In France, in 2020, transport accounted for 29% of national GHG emissions (including 2-3% for air transport). To meet these ambitious targets, research is continuing into the rapid incorporation of alternative fuels into fossil fuels, in particular those derived from non-food biomass (advanced biofuels) and from hydrogen and carbon dioxide. Technological, industrial and commercial hurdles still need to be overcome to enable the development of a French production chain for Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).

What is the current state of research into these non-fossil fuel alternatives?What is the role of the state, will a French CAD manufacturing industry emerge in the near future, are the volumes of fuel to be manufactured compatible with the required trajectories, will regulations evolve, etc.?. ?

If you're interested in this topical and forward-looking subject, come and discuss it with our experts, who will lead this Matinale as follows.

Procedure: the first part of the Matinale (around 40 minutes) will take the form of a debate between the experts, with a non-specialist moderator leading the discussion. The second part will be open to participants, who will be able to intervene directly via audio [1] to make comments, share their experience, clarify a point of view or ask questions. The moderator will manage participants' contributions, respecting as far as possible the chronology of "raised hands". Maximum interactivity will be sought to make the debate as lively as possible.

[1] The protocol will be specified at the beginning of the session.

La Matinale is not a conference, it's a time for sharing!

The Experts for this Matinale will be :

  • Aurélie BICHOT, ADEME, Biosourced products and biofuels engineer;
  • Bernard CHAUD, GLOBAL BIOENERGIES, Industrial Strategy Director;
  • Mickaël SICARD, ONERA, Senior Researcher, Multi-physics for Energy Department.

and will be moderated by Denis Gély, ONERA acoustics expert and 3AF member.

REGISTRATION IS FREE OF CHARGE. If you are unable to attend, you can cancel your registration on the 3AF website under "Events".
