A BOOK PUBLISHED BY THE AERODYNAMICS COMMISSION

The 3AF Aerodynamics Committee has just published a special issue of the International Journal of Numerical Methods for Heat & Fluid Flow, entitled " Emerging Approaches in Aerodynamics", with Emerald Publishing.

This special issue, overseen by its Editorial Board; Abderrahmane Baïri, Nacim Alilat (Paris-Nanterre University) and Vincent Brion (ONERA), explores the emergent approaches to aerodynamics proposed following the 3AF AERO2024 conference held in March 2024 at Polytech d'Orléans.

He presents papers on innovative models, such as physics- and data-integrated surrogate models for the design of rotary detonation devices, or vorticity confinement corrections for discontinuous Galerkin schemes applied to fluid flows. Other work focuses on surrogate models for assessing the aerodynamic response of UAVs, numerical simulations of vertical-axis wind turbines, and analysis of the aerodynamic characteristics of blunt-nose trains. Finally, studies are examining the dynamic response of pedestrian bridges to the aerodynamic perturbations of high-speed trains, as well as the analysis of geometric uncertainties in train aerodynamics.

This research, and all the papers presented during AERO204, illustrate the growing integration of artificial intelligence, big data and high-fidelity simulations to meet today's challenges in the aerospace, transport and energy sectors.
